The Ultimate Gymnastics Meet Packing List for Parents
Meet day is exciting — and a little hectic. Whether it's your first competition or your tenth, having the right bag packed can make the day so much smoother for both you and your gymnast. Here's everything you need to bring to a gymnastics meet.
For Your Gymnast
- Competition leotard — Pack a backup if you have one, just in case.
- Warm-up suit — Most meets require gymnasts to wear one during warm-ups and while waiting to compete.
- Grips and grip bag — For older gymnasts on bars, this is non-negotiable.
- Gymnastics shoes or bare feet covers — Great for keeping feet clean between events.
- Hair supplies — Bobby pins, hair ties, hair spray, and a small brush or comb. Buns are the standard, so come prepared to fix any flyaways.
- Snacks and water — Meets can last hours. Pack nutritious snacks like fruit, granola bars, and sandwiches. Avoid heavy or sugary foods right before competing.
- Extra snacks — Seriously, pack more than you think you need.
- Small towel or wipes — For chalk, sweat, and general freshening up.
- Bag or backpack — A roomy gymnastics bag to hold it all.
For the Parents in the Stands
- Comfortable seating — A stadium cushion or small bleacher seat is a game changer for long meets.
- Layers — Gymnastics gyms can be cold. Bring a light jacket or blanket.
- Snacks and water for yourself — You'll be there a while too!
- Cash — Many meet venues have concession stands or merchandise tables that are cash only.
- Camera or fully charged phone — You'll want to capture every routine. Make sure you know the meet's photography policy.
- Entertainment for siblings — If younger kids are coming, bring books, tablets, or small toys for downtime between events.
- A positive attitude — This one's priceless. Your gymnast will look to you for encouragement, win or learn.
Don't Forget the Night Before
Pack the bag the evening before the meet so the morning isn't rushed. Lay out the leotard, double-check the schedule, and plan your route to the venue. A calm morning sets the tone for a great competition day.
